Ford Country Squire Wagons Offered More Space for Precious Cargo

Over the decades, Ford’s Country Squire wagon saw several different iterations, but the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s models are our favorites. These old-fashioned cars might not be the coolest vintage wagons out there, but at the time, they were different with their rear-facing seats, outward-swinging back door, and plenty of room.

These days it’s not often that we see a vintage Country Squire that isn’t rattly and at least a little battered, but every now and then, we’ll come across one that has been cared for very well over the years by its owner, who’s probably very likely the first or second owner of the vehicle. In these moments we take a moment to admire and appreciate the beauty in this: that a classic car, even if it’s not the most expensive, the most class, or the most popular, can still be a thing of beauty and history if it’s treated with care and respect.

Back in 1977 my second car was a 69 country squire wagon. as I recall it had a 390 V8 and was geared to tow boats and trailers. It had the seat in the back that folded up and faced backwards. It was a cool wagon. Gas was cheap back then and I really liked it.

I rode in one of these to Dodger Stadium to see the Dodgers play the Pirates when I was a kid. I also used to pray to see one of these first playing the ‘Alphabet Game’ on long cross country trips because this was about the only place you could find a ‘Q’. 🙂
