Earlier today, Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo stepped down from his position leaving Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne to run the business. Montezemolo’s departure isn’t terribly shocking given his background (he resurrected Scuderia Ferrari after Mr. Enzo Ferrari’s passing in 1988) and the Scuderia’s poor Formula One results this season...

September 5th is almost upon us, and we’ve collected over 60,000 signatures to start the process to repeal the ban on non-conforming cars and trucks. These are vehicles that are sold elsewhere in the world, but for whatever reason weren’t sold here when they were originally made. In short, that means they can’t legally be driven here in the USA until they are 25-years old...
For those of you who aren’t familiar, the United States has an almost blanket ban on importing all vehicles younger than twenty-five years old. Land of the free, my foot! With very few exceptions, you can’t just import a car from another part of the world until it has turned twenty-five years old. And it's about protectionism. But not about protecting occupants or even the environment.

Why would Marchionne want to kill the historic and valuable Lancia brand? Could it be that he's misjudging Chryslers', re-badged as Lancias, poor sales as an indication of lack of interest in the Italian brand? Come on, people are smarter than that. Of course a Voyager minivan or a 200 with a Lancia badge is going to have limited appeal!

Last week, we reported on Bertone's impending bankruptcy and the fact that they were actively seeking investors who may be able to save the company. On Monday, our hopes were bolstered that this storied company would remain afloat when a story surfaced in Hurriyet Daily News claiming that Karsan had bought the rights to the Bertone brand name and museum.
