Nine Classic Car Details That Leave Us Wanting More

Some of us here at Petrolicious tend to see classics as a whole, and revel in lines that are carried across a car’s body. The rest of us, however, can fall in love at the sight of a perfectly-placed air vent. This week’s Instagram roundup features nine awesome shots of details—from a rare Škoda to a certain singer’s iconic Porsche 356…

There’s no better way to start an article about details than a photo by @melancholerik, showing a very rare, and very detail-laden Škoda 1100 MB. “Cool kids,” says @kyr_achi, and we’re inclined to agree! Finally, in this group, @rafalandrzejewski, took a great shot of what makes the “Slant Nose” 911 so special.

A nice close-up of a ’56 Porsche 356A by @tremotorsports. @2fast2finkel captures such a great badge of the on again, off again marque, Maybach. And is there a more interesting Porsche paint job than on Janis Joplin’s Porsche 356 Cabrio? Probably not. 

One of our favorite modern BMWs, @limitmag captures vent detail on this M Coupe. Alfa Romeo GTA Junior by @between_the_white_lines—follow Jonathan now if you haven’t already. Finally, by @ladumotorsport, a photo of the instantly-recognizable and never-gets-old “Targa” script on this iconic 911 model.

Most of the shots I take of cars (and post on IG with the tag) are of the details. The way I see it, there are plenty of shots of an entire Packard, Lambo, MG, etc… Not that many of the details that MAKE the car.

Love the roundup of IG posts that you do. I think it’d be cool if the Petrolicious team could put out a weekly photo theme in advance that calls for submissions unique to the theme.

The license plate is the same as the one that was loaned out to Pittsburgh from the RR HOF. http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2015/07/17/janis-joplin-porsche/
I doubt anyone has been snookered.

Your information is sadly mistaken and misinformed Mr Jacobs . Neither photo is of the original with the CBS website you referenced to having been snookered as well . Not that CBS or its affiliates really care ! The originals plate has always been LRS842 . . And I can guarantee you that the original is never loaned out to anyone due to the fragile nature of the paint job with the very rare exception of a request by a museum guaranteeing the car wii be kept indoors and not drive [ R&RHoF website ]

There are though several privately built replicas of which this VAN990 plated is one of that tour the US etc [ as per TRJ Excellence etc ] … Fact is I can almost guarantee you I know who built this one and who owns it So instead of relying on internet blathering from sources who neither know or could give a rats posterior about much of anything other than selling airtime : please take the time and effort to do the research and getting your facts straight before contradicting someone who obviously knows more than you do on the particular subject at hand . FYI ; just so you have a clearer picture of who you might be dealing with here . I was one of the people who exposed the recent attempt to sell a replica of the ” Easy Rider ” ‘Captain America’ bike as one of the films originals as the fraud that it is .

And now you all have a first hand example as to why I absolutely despise ‘ tribute ‘ and ‘ replica ‘ cars and M/C’s . Especially celebrity ‘ tribute ‘ and ‘ replica ‘ cars/bikes . They are created to deceive . And deceive they do . Especially the minions desperate to catch a glimpse of celebrity … or worse .. to purchase a piece of it . And guaranteed … as the prices of classic and celebrity cars & bikes escalates to the heavens … so will follow the attempts to forge , create and/or deceive in the name of greed !

In light of my most recent discoveries after a bit of research and the revelation by the photographer I believe the best we can say about the Pittsburg siting is ‘

‘ Was it real or was it Memorex ? ‘

And apologies to you as well though I’ll stand by the majority of what I posted especially the last paragraph

According to the ARPCA, the Porsche was the real thing. So the best we can say about the Pittsburgh sitting is that it is real and not Memorex. The video is on the ARPCA.com site. It was being displayed under a tent, so perhaps that qualifies ‘indoors’ for purposes of the HOF policy.

You can ditch your apologies and instead do a little research of your own next time before belittling another poster and trumpeting your superiority like an Internet Tough Guy.

Is that Janis Joplin’s 356 Cabrio ? Why no it is not . Its . Its . Its another example of my favorite pet peeve in the classic car world .

Its .. its … a goram Replica ! The original safely ensconced in the Cleveland Ohio R&R Hall of Fame . The original not only not having a front plate : having a rear plate only with the correct license number LRS842 . Sorry guys but y’all , the photographer or both done been snookered !

Howdy, I’m the photographer.

Car was on display at the North Carolina Museum of Art for the Porsche by Design – Seducing Speed exhibit last year, and was on loan from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Perhaps they surreptitiously loaned out a replica, but given the one-of-one nature of several of the vehicles on loan for the exhibit, I tend to believe that it was the real deal.

Oops ! In that case I do believe the car may be the original as they did loan it out for the Porsche by Design exhibit . At least on their site they claim they loaned out the original . Strange that they changed or allowed to be changed the license plate to one belonging to a replica instead of keeping its LRS842 plate . Hmmmn .

So mea coppa . I was assuming the photo was recent . Apologies are in order ! Along with a boatload of questions about that license plate . Hmmmn .

Is it a cool picture? Yes. Does it have a car in it? Yes. I think this is the right audience for the subject matter.

Are you the owner of the vehicle who has a problem with the photographer posting this picture? No, didn’t think so…

Who the ___ cares ? Anyone with a modicum of morality and decency , a sense for what is right along with the demand for authenticity .. not to mention anyone caring whether the general public or an individual might of been taken

Mr Guitar Slinger, in that case, I’m sure you’ve never played anybody else’s songs but your own as that just wouldn’t be authentic. I’m sure you’ve never hung any art on your walls that wasn’t the original canvas painted by the original artist because that would be immoral.

I bet you have a guitar or two in your collection that is pretty close to one that one of your heroes played. Are you trying to “snooker” someone into thinking you are Hendrix or King or Beck? No, you are just a guy who likes guitars and has musical heroes.

Some people have car that they have always wanted or thought were cool but will never own the real one. Deal with it.

Sad future, pitty? Dude, I’m not the one policing blog posts for immoral and unauthentic content. Please, get a life.
