As more of his old rides surface, it’s safe to say that Steve McQueen’s taste in vehicles was second to none. From cars like a subtly-customized Ferrari 275 GTB/4 to his road-going Jaguar D-Type, the XKSS, the King of Cool also had a knack for selecting beautiful motorcycles.

On October 18, the Bonhams Autumn Stafford Sale will feature this ex-McQueen 1934 Indian 750-cc Sport Scout. Long a motorcycle innovator, Indian’s Sport Scout was one of the fastest bikes on the market on its introduction, and was the winner of the very first Daytona 200 in 1937. Capable of an honest-to-goodness 80-85 mph thanks to its flathead V-Twin, the newly-revised-for-1934 Sport Scout would have been the motorcycle of choice for a spirited rider like McQueen.

Last sold at auction for $155,000 Usd. in 2006, its estimate is surprisingly a bit more affordable less than 10 years later, at £55,000–65,000 (~$83,000–98,500 Usd.) For more information, read Bonhams’ catalogue description on this beautiful vintage machine.

In light of all the (serious) debacles lately in the collector car and motorcycle market [ specifically in the motorcycle market ] and especially when it comes to purported ‘ celebrity ‘ owned cars and motorcycles even at the best of auction houses I have but one thing to say ;

Caveat Emptor … to the umpteenth degree … 😉
