Lamborghini was creating a stir in the market in the mid-sixties with its mid-engined Miura, but Mr. Enzo Ferrari felt that a mid-engined Ferrari would be unsafe in the hands of his customers. It was Sergio who eventually convinced Ferrari to adopt the mid-engined configuration for a new line of road cars, allowing Pininfarina to build a mid-engined concept for the 1965 Paris Motor Show.

The gesture or theme of the car can be described by two lines: first, the sweep of the rear fender beginning at the front bumper cut-line and second, the hood leading into the fast windshield rising over the large, open greenhouse. Moving the Berlinetta Boxer's radiator from the front into two rear-mounted radiators allowed designers to experiment with the modified mid-engined proportions that the Ferrari Testarossa is now so famous for.

The Matching Numbers group, a Gentlemen Drivers network in Paris, recently planned and participated in a rally inspired by the film C'était un Rendez-vous (1976), directed by Claude Lelouch. Following a road guide, they met early in the morning at Place Victor Hugo, headed up to the famous Sacré Cœur Basilica and ended with a rendezvous for brunch at Restaurant de l’Opera.

Now discounted to a fraction of its original price, it waits humbly for a return to grace. Vintage car collector Joe Ventura waits along with it.
