In conjunction with last week’s Land Rover video, we wanted to share more information about the Land Rover. So we’ve created a Petrolicious infographic that is chock full of all kinds of interesting tidbits about the iconic car. For instance, did you know that the Series I initially sold for about £600?

I live in Costa Rica and own a series IIA. Trying to fix her up is lots of fun. Also I have a Jeep wrangle in the states and would not trade either vehicle for anything.

The lwb Series III was replaced with the One Ten in 1983 (and later the Ninety joined the lineup), which became the Defender for MY91.

Guest (TJ Martin) and Vintage Son The ptorotype mule was based on a Jeep but what production parts were used from the Jeep?

…. and … did you also know that the original Land Rover was in fact built from a bunch of JEEP parts left over from the war ?

Not true. It was inspired by the jeep, but was a totally new fabrication. In the book, ‘They Found our Engineer’ early Land Rover engineer Arthur Goddard debunks that myth. An abortive vehicle known as ‘the Centre- Steer’ was built and discarded immediately. The first pre-production series one was a vastly different vehicle. The point of building the land-rover was to create a vehicle better than the war-surplus Jeeps Rover boss Maurice Wilkes had used on his estate in Anglesey.

Thanks for pointing it out… following is our source and in hindsight we took it to mean that Defenders were never, ever imported, but yes, they were much later on as you point out, in the mid-’90s. http://www.eastcoastrover.com/INFOSeriesIIIUSA.html
