This Young Designer Showcases French, German and Italian Cars

Mr. Tanay Patel is a transportation designer from India, currently working at Studio Clockwork in South Mumbai as a Lead Concept Designer. He finished his Masters Degree from DSK International School of Design in Pune, during which he interned at Citroën in Paris, and Volkswagen in Wolfsburg for a year. “I am proud to say that six of my works are now a permanent exhibit at the Citroën Design Studio.” Like most other designer’s work, his art has a loose, quick feel to it that dispenses with the unnecessary. All of his subjects are instantly recognizable, but if you look closely, the secret is indication, rather than painstaking detail (such as this). Additionally, while his subjects have a certain looseness, the backgrounds go even further to the point where digital ‘brushstrokes’ give the feeling of texture.

If you look closely there is also a warm to cool effect on the cars’ surfaces from the focal point to the background. This gives the cars a more three-dimensional, voluminous appearance. Basically, it makes them pop of the page. In Tanay’s case, his most successful pieces are the less detailed ones because they also tend to have the most contrast.

But aside from cars Tanay has also started a clothing brand called Pocket India, which celebrates India’s different textiles and the iconic shape of a pocket. Apart from that he has a scale model collection of around four hundred cars that is about twenty-five years old (some of which were his dad’s!). He is a big fan of the Gran Turismo racing games and is currently building a 150cc Suzuki-engined Scrambler.
